Kayla and Jorge

How We Met

Our story began in the middle of nowhere, Maine, in October 2020. Jorge worked with my cousin in Maine, and I was visiting her from Florida. Once a month, he and other coworkers would get together to hang out, this month being at my cousin's house for spaghetti dinner. I was studying on the back porch when Jorge pulled up and walked up the stairs doing at least 90 miles per hour to introduce himself (though he denies these accusations). Later on during my trip, my cousin casually said, You should go on a date with Jorge, but I didn't make much of it at the time. I did, however, follow him on Instagram before leaving Maine. This sparked a conversation that led to a year and a half of long-distance dating filled with lots of flights and trips to Epcot and Universal Studios. By the grace of God, Jorge was able to move to Atlanta for his career in July of 2022. I flew up to help him pack the U-Haul, and we drove the 1400 mile trip from Maine to where we live today.

The Proposal

For our third year anniversary of dating, Kayla and I drove to a small, mountainside Airbnb in northern Georgia with a sunset overlook. On Saturday, August 24 we decided to explore Chattanooga, Tennessee. I had the engagement ring in my pocket the whole day waiting for the perfect opportunity to present itself, but decided to wait until we were back at the Airbnb, knowing it would just be me and her. When we returned, we made homemade pizzas outside by the campfire over the mountain. She wanted to give me the anniversary gift she got me as the sun started to disappear, so it was time to give mine to her. I told her to watch the sunset as I got down on one knee. When she turned around, I asked her to marry me. The rest of the evening was spent celebrating and telling all of our family and friends!
